About the Society

The American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama was founded in April, 1942, by J.L.

Moreno, MD. Rooted in the philosophy of Dr. Moreno, the ASGPP promotes the development of creativity,

spontaneity and encounter to enhance the relationship between individuals, families and communities;

and works actively to heal and transform society through the knowledge and practice of psychodrama,

group psychotherapy and sociometry in all of its diverse applications.

Continuing Education

The ASGPP is an Approved Continuing Education Provider for the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors, National Board of Certified Counselors, and the National Registry of Group Psychotherapists. Members who are qualified trainers are eligible to become Approved CEU Providers.

Categories of Membership

Regular Members $100.00

Any person who supports the aims and standards of the Society is eligible to become a regular member. Members in

good standing shall be eligible to vote at meetings and other proceedings of the society, chair and serve on committees

and seek nomination for elected positions. Candidates for President-Elect and Treasurer are required to have some experience on the Executive Council.

Student Members $50.00

A Student member is anyone who can demonstrate at least half-time enrollment in a college or university. Student

members are eligible for appointments to committees, but not for nomination to elected positions.

Those prospective members for whom payment of dues would be a financial hardship should contact the National

Office. Membership in the Society represents a commitment to its purposes and standards and is not an endorsement of

professional competence.
